Over 20 years ago, on a lovely spring day, we
responded to an ad in the newspaper placed by an Irishman living in New York's
Staten Island and went to pick up our first Kerry Blue puppy, Arlene's Irish
Lady. As a child, I had admired my best friend's Kerry, whom she bragged was
"the greatest dog."
Irish Lady did indeed prove to be "the greatest
dog". Although she had none of the attributes desired in the showring, she
had that Kerry spirit, affection, and always ready-to-play attitude. We were
hooked!
After Irish Lady passed on, we went into serious
Kerry pursuits and were fortunate to obtain our second Kerry girl, Irish
Ninja, from another Irishman whose family was transplanted to New York.
Irish, now CH Paul's Irish Ninja,
finished her championship in a few short weekends with all major wins,
including a specialty and group placing. Irish is the foundation of our
breeding program, which includes "Flag",
CH Graylag Flagitious,
an English
import, who has reinforced an athletic temperament and brought early coat
color to many of the puppies in our line, including
CH Liberty's Shaughnessy.
Our newest champion is, CH. Liberty's
Princess Dianna,
"Layla",
can be seen on
"OUR
DOGS" page.
A few years ago, after losing touch with my friend
who started my interest in Kerries, I ran into her. When I told her what she
and her Kerry had started, she said "My Kerry? Oh, yes, I thought
that dog was a Kerry."
